On Monday, October 27, 2025, Zakho University organized a symposium titled “Historical, Political, and Administrative Developments of the Zummar Region.”
The event was attended by Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed, President of Zakho University; Dr. Ramadhan Jafar Mustafa, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Fakher Hassan, Dean of the College of Humanities; and Dr. Abdulsalam Najmadin, Director of the Zakho Center for Kurdish Studies.
The symposium was organized by the Department of History in coordination with the Zakho Center for Kurdish Studies. It aimed to shed light on the Zummar region through historical, political, and administrative perspectives, highlighting its importance within the broader context of Kurdish and Iraqi studies.
Historical Development
This part of the symposium explored the historical background of the Zummar region, including its origins, major historical events, cultural heritage, and how life in the area has evolved through various historical periods.
